This page is a directory of GeoGuessr maps that Plonk It recommends.
It can be quite hard to find high quality maps, as GeoGuessr's own tools for map discovery are not very good. This page is a directory of maps that Plonk It recommends, in a variety of different categories.
All maps on this page meet at least the following minimum requirements:
All official coverage (unless specified otherwise).
Not polygonal.
Well-considered location choice. This can mean two things:
Handpicked by the map author.
Arbitrarily picked by the map-generator, but with a well considered distribution (both in terms of country distribution and subdivision distribution within big countries).
A high number of locations. This is dependent on the type of map: a good world map should have tens of thousands of locations. A themed map can already be high quality with only a few hundred locations.
Pinpointable maps will have this icon.
The hand represents maps fully handpicked by the creator, and the computer represents maps made with the map-generator.
This pin will show the approximate amount of locations in each map.
A subjective rating of the map’s difficulty by the Plonk It editors.
World maps
This section features World Maps that are intended for regular gameplay. While only some maps in this category are pinpointable - and therefore ideal for 25k attempts - all of them are suitable for NM and NMPZ gameplay, as well as both Country Streaks and aiming for a Highscore.
A Community World (ACW) - Map link
Handpicked • pinpointable • 105k+ locations
The primary alternative to the default World map. Suitable for all game modes: casual games, country streaks, 25k speedruns, competitive gameplay, and more. It has been made by a big team of experienced mappers and receives constant updates to include new coverage.
An Official World (AOW) - Map link
Handpicked • pinpointable • 109k+ locations
The map used in the GeoGuessr World Cup. Suitable for all game modes, it features a high amount of rounds with information close to the initial location.
An Arbitrary World (AAW) - Map link
Arbitrarily picked • not pinpointable • 100k+ locations
Another alternative to the default World map. Its arbitrarily picked locations have the benefit of not being known by a large pool of map creators (unlike ACW).
AI Generated World (AI Gen) - Map link
Mix of handpicked & arbitrarily picked • not pinpointable • 135k+ locations
Most locations in this map are arbitrarily generated. However, a significant minority of locations are handpicked by the creator. These locations tend to be on the harder side, giving this map its reputation of being fairly difficult.
An Improved World (AIW) - Map link

A highly replayable handpicked map. It has a distribution that favours big countries more than usual. Location diversity is high, including locations such as city locations with a lot of info and remote rural dirt roads. The map is meant to be played in the No Move/NMPZ formats. There is also a version of this map without shitcam locations.

A well balanced map with a high variety of location types. This map features a lot of remote recognizable places but doesn’t forget about urban areas.

Dirty World (DW) - Map link

After playing this map that includes equal amounts of locations in Russia, USA, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Indonesia and Mexico you will never groan when you get a big country with high multipliers.

Novelty maps
This section features World Maps that have some sort of quirk, often making them sub-optimal for competitive games. Nevertheless, these maps are still well-made and offer a different type of challenge.

AI Populated World (AI Pop) - Map link

A map that used population statistics to decide how many locations to allocate to each country and its subdivisions. In practice this means that highly populated countries are significantly overrepresented compared to other maps.

Tired of seeing Russia and Indonesia every few games? This map has the answer with the exact same amount of locations in almost every country and territory. Locations are panned away from big car metas, so playing NMPZ can bring an extra challenge.

End of coverage locations can be some of the most interesting locations in Street View. This map only contains that type of location, and can thus be extremely interesting and challenging, particularly when playing NMPZ, as all locations are panned away from the coverage.
